Tues Mar 15

Storm and sunshine.

Awoke at 6:30 A.M. quite early for me.

Chet came and we drove to Station, bought 2 lbs buttermilk. Got can, and compass and med battery of Station and came back. Went on the ice from Dennis Berger’s.

Chet took dinner with me.

I rode over to Henrys with him and split wood until 4. Then my back gave out and I had to quit.

Chet and wife came from Randolph yesterday. Feeling pretty well.

Sat. 19

Fine warm day until towards night when it grew quite cold.

Helped Henry finish sawing and splitting his wood pile. Patsy has been sick two or three days. Clara gave me a present of a holder.

Sunday Mar 20.

Henry and Clara called this mng just as I had kindled my fire, and stayed about an hour. They brought me some apples and a can of plums and a can of crab apples.

Made 8 apple pies.

Quite cold and windy and generally unpleasant. Saw the first gull of the season. From my window about noon.

Monday Mar 21.

A nice comfortable day. Thawing a little.

Went chopping this morning. Chet came about 10:20 and we went to the Pass Hogback and Station.  Got decoy ducks and my 3 kegs and brought them home. Chet took dinner with me. Alma ate as well. Henry went to city and saw Hi. Seed corn very scarce. Writing label for tooth powder this evening.

March 27 Sunday

Made doughnuts, First rate they might be used gum, Pared apples and soaking apricots to make pies tomorrow.

Went over to Henry’s this evening.

Seriously considering the advisability of investing my “last dollar” in a mail order venture. Received proposal from Modern Publicity Company of 985 North Clark St. Chicago Ill, yesterday .

Am accepting their proposition, mail it tomorrow. Am writing first time of Harper Manufacturing Company of 167 Dearborn St., Chicago for Catalog and information regarding “Ozone Generator” Mail it tomorrow.

Monday, March 28

Sunshine until middle of A.M then cloudy and equally all around. Snowing now at 9 pm, cold day. Got up at 6:30 am, shredded apples and baked pies and two plates of biscuits, all ok. Chet came out with buggy.

We went to W. Pt. and hauled boat out of water and brought it to a safer place. Water has risen 2 1/2 to 3 feet already.

Broken up around station and did not venture out. Looked for a little local shack, found three places that might so but only one of them is entirely satisfactory to me

Had a good hot dinner, when we got back at 3:30 pm. Road over to Henry’s with Chet and carried a basket of calf feed. Took super and stayed the evening.

Chet’s baby has two teeth, folks are well, mailed two letters (mail order big).

Tuesday, March 29

A nice warm day, some clouds but mostly sun. Went chopping first thing Patsy came with load of manure for garden, as I came up, and after I trimmed the cherry tree.

At breakfast at 9:20, and at 10, Chet came again to go to station for letter paper. We went to the point but could get me no further as water had risen so fast and ice near shore was nothing we couldn’t reach, thick ice without too much risk

We came home and I got lunch for Chet and then I rode over to Henry’s to get ladder to trim apple trees.

Henry came over with me and we partly burned over my farm but grass to wet at bottom so we will have to try again later.

Aunt Em came over with her broom to extinguish the fire if Henry and I couldn’t manage it.

Gave them some of my pie. We all went down to my wood lot to see what I have been doing.  After they went home I again tackled the cherry orchard and finished the east side just as the whistle blew for 6 pm.

Ate my supper and went over to Henry’s, he was away at Hines’.  I stayed until 9:00 and he had not returned as I came home moon nearly full and a lovely evening, hardly any wind. Pretty tired tonight

Wednesday March 30th.

Another nice day. But indication of approaching storm seem to be plain. Look out 2/3s of the cherry trees on west side of path and trimmed the apple trees and several plums. Ate breakfast and dinner at 2pm look at map, and then went over to Henry’s to file my handsaw.  Henry isn’t home from city.  New garden rake.  Aunt Em gave an orange. I filed my saw, and Henry painted one wheel of his wagon, with varnish paint.  I took supper and visited a while and have just got home, 9 p.m.  Trying to regulate my watch, goes too slow in spite of me. Have just given it a turn that will make it do something I guess between now and morning.

March 31 Thursday

A comfortable day: thawing, sunny AM but storm conditions gathering and colder toward night. Sundogs and circle around sun middle of the day. Pruning apple tree all day, have got quite a pile of limbs at the door and lot more coming. At Henry’s this evening, paint pig pen tomorrow if weather is favorable. Pretty tired tonight.
