April-Tuesday 1
Chet came in rain again with load of potatoes etc.. My boat
was stolen and tied up over RR in sight of light house, where I could see it
but of course I could not leave to get it.
Friday 4
Chet and Ruth both again, with big load of things to stay. I had the house looking neat and trim and helped them eat their first dinner. Found Ned waiting for me at the cove where I landed. Barstow is mad about something. Everybody seems to be mad. Hope they enjoy it.
At Hardy’s this evening. He expects to see Mr. Gay on next Monday and I hope that everything will be alright. Letters from Tess and BSP today.
Sat 5
Another very fine day. Hardly any wind. Cleaned up cherry and apple brush on the triangle. Was afraid ham had spoiled in pickle but it hadn’t. Commenced smoking the shoulder to-day.
Took mail box away from Barstow’s. Edson’s father is here visiting.
Ratte here this morning to look the place over. Want to take whole thing at halves. I wrote Capt'n his offer. Letter from Randolph today. Butter bill,will, powerbelt etc. and an invitation to go and visit them. Grandpa is there with them now. Over at Hardy’s this evening. Edie and I to go to City Tuesday.
Sunday 6
Another fine day but cool. Did some chores.

I had a chance to ride down with Dennis Berger, I came along. Did up my night chores and went up to Ratte's until 9 + now have just got home. Found my fountain pen, it was on my vest pocket. It has been missing quite a while. Glad to see it again. But it needs filling before I write anymore.
Monday 7
A good day!
Went to Light house. Carried blocks for boat falls. Took dinner there, when I got back, Edson had Ned to go to mill. Six hours in all today. Hardy's this evening. Heard that Cass is in town. I found him and Bert H. here when I came home.
Tuesday 8
Fair day but cold.
Eden and I went to the city. Gay asked $50 for lot. Probably I can’t buy it. Very disappointed. Edie’s mother and baby came home with us. Cass came this morning, is with me tonight.
Wed 9
Cloudy + Rainy + a gale from the north or N.E.
Cass + I haven’t done much for we couldn’t.
I smoked the shoulder of bacon 3rd time and put up mail for between here and Barstow.
Pea soup for dinner + Cass wouldn’t eat any supper.
Letter from Captain instructing me to let Ratte have the place on shore.
Thur 10
Rain + Snow + wind. Everything just the same.
Cass + I went up + viewed that woodlot, but guess I don’t want it.
Fri 11
Clearing a little, Cass + I went to L.H, + took dinner, + Visited from 1 to 4 P.M. Had a good time. Cass started for home this morning + I went over to Ratte's.
Sat 12
Got 4 boat loads of wood. Rained P.M, again as I cleaned out lower part of barn. Pretty tired, over to Hardy’s this evening.
Sunday 13
Rain again. Stayed at home + cleaned out my kitchen. Hardy came over to sell me an acre of land or rather to lease it to me.
Monday 14
Worked on flood wood + raked door yard A.M and cleaned cellar P.M. Hardy’s
this evening.
Tuesday 15
Started early for L.H and got there about 8:20 or 9:00. Walked to cove and rowed to lighthouse. Took breakfast.
Rowed to island. Found sail O.K went to pass and found I could go under. Rowed back to boathouse and took on sail. Rowed to pass again + set sail for home but wind left at Halls Point so rowed home. Light S. breeze. Worked in the locust grove this P.M after I got home at 1 pm.
I carried Joneses pail home + stopped at Hardy's short time this evening. Pretty tired tonight. Not feeling first rate either.
Sunday 20
Don't know where I am now, only as I guess at it.
On Wed. I cleaned out the cellar.
Thurs I cleaned out the hen house went to L.H.
Fri I cleaned out privy and went fishing with Edson's father. We got 50 perch.
Sat Finished Locust grove. Took all day.
Today I mended overalls. Made pea soup, baked 2 loaves of biscuit, 1 of gingerbread and went to L.H. Took Mr. Jones for company. At Jones and Hardy's this evening.
Cooked the perch and carried over to L.H.
Monday 21
Raked my north yard A.M. looks fine. Went fishing with Mr. Goodspeed PM after 4 o'clock. He got 9. I got 44.
Rain again tonight.
Tuesday
Mixed fertilizer AM Rain in morning.
Got ready to go fishing a little after 1 but Ratte and Joe came down to plow garden so I stopped and helped clean up and burn. Got the garden plowed OK.
Gave Barstow's folks 10 perch this mng.
Letters and sample of Lilac cream from B.S.P.
Awful tired tonight. Air feels like rain again.
