P.M. At Home
So. Wind all day and all last night, a regular old
gale.
Very little wind when I started for Station last night, but it found me beyond
Sugar-Bush. I sailed along however by moonlight to the Pass, and then I worked
my passage to Law Island. Found nothing but 4 or 5 potatoes to eat so sat down
to read. Soon Percy and his cousin came over from Lincoln’s camp to see what
the light meant. They gave me a banana, and went back. I ate banana and
retired. Slept very little and coughed a good deal. Arose at 9 A.M boiled potatoes and made
coffee but couldn’t seem to eat much.
About noon saw someone signaling station from W.P so I hurried + rowed
over and found Ruth, Francie + Anna Aikey looking for me. They found that I had started at
dusk and as Chet had not come home, were afraid that I had
been swamped and that either Chet or
I might be sick at the station. We found
that Chet was all right, that the Gov’t boat was around and that he wanted me to come again Tuesday. I did try to go over but found water too
rough, and as it was not a case of life + death
I gave it up . When I got home at
6 P.M. I went over to Chet’s to tell them how it was, + got supper. Was
disappointed at not finding Chestie.
Hope they will bring him home To-morrow.
