May 1906
Tues May 1 1906 9 PM at house
Fine day but fresh NW breeze, all day at Chet’s,
chores, split wood, made flower bed, laid out plan for setting posts for
clothes-line, raked yard in front of farm etc, etc. Chestie helped me. He is not yet as strong as he was before he
was sick but still he seems to feel pretty well. Hounds + dogs are barking.
Mailed a 10 page letter to sister
Mary.
Wed May 2
9PM
Working at Chet’s, as usual. Went to Station in morning:
got home at 12, now raining dug up 5 popples + 3
cedars + a grape vine near the well, and trimmed sprouts off apple-tree on
roadside. Feel pretty tired. Perch have commenced to bite and I wish I had
nothing else to do but catch them for two months to come.
Thur. May 3

rainy all AM.
Finished cleaning and regulating
the barn shed. Mr. Alec Guyette borrowed lumber wagon. Worked all day at Chet’s.

nest and brought in two eggs. I weighed
him Monday and he is not gaining. I am
troubled about him. Mailed

Fri. May 4 9 PM
So. Gale all day. At Chet’s all day.
Carted off a big
load of stuff raked up around yard. Also painted outside of Watkins skiff, white.
Brought lot of
bottles over here. Gave Henry his basket full
of my nicest “Gold Coin” potatoes.
Carried apples
to Mrs. Farmer who gave me two fine warm doughnuts. I carried from here some potatoes for
station, and some for Chet to plant also some parsnips, beet turnips, carrots
and tomatoes for Chet’s folks and some tomatoes for Station. If wind had gone down I intended to go to
Station tonight but it seems doubtful now if I get there before Sunday or
Monday.
Inspected Mr. Lacey’s
fish-shanty near river. 6x8 and
looks from outside to be quite a nice one.
Frank Gilmore thinks it maybe bought for $3.00. If that is true I hope Chet will buy it for
me. It is threatening to rain before
morning.
Boils have again
manifested their ability to make one’s life miserable. Have one good (or bad) on back of neck and
another one just starting below my collar.

city.

so that is gone.

work all done up this week.
I wish it was all done now.
