Henry Thayer came over and took dinner or supper at 3 PM with me.

Mon. Apr. 9

Cold and raw.  Southerly wind.  Snow tonight.

Chestie quite sick this mng.  Knocked me all out.

He was taken soon after I left these on Saturday. Chet sent for a doctor that night and again yesterday. He looked very bad when I got there, and I lost my appetite at once and I couldn’t have felt worse nor as bad if I had found this house burned down. I sat down by him put my hand on his hand then he went to sleep and slept two hours or more and waked up much changed apparently for the better. Chet went to telephone Dr. Forbes and to bring Mrs. Carey. Dr. came soon after Chestie awoke, and after thorough examination thought he would get along without further serious trouble. Dr. Forbes, Chet and Mrs. C. came soon after.

I sawed and cut wood like a good fellow all day; felt so bad for Chestie , I forgot my own bad feelings and worked much harder than normal. Pretty tired, Frank has roof of L. Ready to raise as soon as fair weather comes again.

Tues. April 10

Snow all last night and this morning, but all gone tonight. Found wood PM.  Chestie not as well about noon and Chet went to see doctor. Chestie better again this evening.   Had to tell him stories after supper and made me late home.  Very dark and muddy.  New boy at Handy’s last night.

Wed. April 11,    11 PM, snowing

Cloudy day mostly, and cold. Though thawing.

Sawed and cut wood for Chet. Chestie improving.  Told stories and sung for him after  supper. Mrs. Carey is there at Chet’s.

Ray went home this morning.

Henry Bessette has foundations laid for new house.

Thurs, April 12

Misty and muggy and cold though thawing all day.

Saw and cut wood.  Chestie about the same. I am worried about him.  Supper at Henry’s. Not feeling very well today and quit about 4 PM.

Fri. April 13

Warm and pleasant all day.  Indications of coming storm tonight, I think.

Finished first lot of wood for Chet, but drew about five loads more PM, so have to commence again tomorrow.

Chet went to W. Pt. AM.  Ice getting thin.  Expect I will have to go over and open up Station next week without fail.

Frank Gilmore has roof raised, new chimney built and everything in running order.

Henry Bessette’s new house is nearly covered.  1 door and 2 windows.  Rev. Buzzell at Chet’s PM.

Chet’s calf sick.  Think it may die.

Mrs. Farmer cleaning house.  Fred and children out with the new horse.

Chestie a little better.  This mng and evening had to hold him and tell him stories about the old-cloth pictures and the woodchucks and sugar camp etc.

Sat. Apr. 14

Threatening a storm and heavy S. gale all day.

The Bay completely cleared of ice since mng and the broad lake is apparently clear also.

Expect to open Station tomorrow if we can get there and land.  Chet got load of manure at Howard’s.

I cut a lot of stove wood AM.

Chestie had clothes on first time for a week.  He is quite weak and could hardly walk.  Helped him walk and told him stories after dinner.

Aunt Em gave me cabbage, parsnips and butter.

Henry painting the Ell of his house.

At P. Cole’s this evening.

10 PM wind easier.  Raining.

Sun. Apr. 15    9 AM

Rain early in mng and wind.  Next fog and now calm and clearing.  About ready to start for Station and waiting for Chet to come along. Left for Station at 10 AM.

Sunday  April 29, 1906

Left station at 4 PM.  Everything at home OK.  Was late doing chores but think I will do better next time.  Found Chestie somewhat-improved but not as much as I wished or expected.  I can’t help feeling anxious about him.  Am myself feeling much better than I left here two weeks ago to day.

Mon April 30 9PM

Hard S wind but warm and fine, though threatening showers.  Worked all day at Chet’s.  Chestie and I made new fences across from corner of farm to highway.  The old ones were blown down by wind but those I made today will not be, I think.  Chestie weighed 30 ¼ lbs today.  A month ago before he was sick he weighed only 29 ½.

Carried pail of apples to Chestie.  Ruth gave me some milk + I gave part of it to Mrs. Farmer.  Henry commenced going to school today.  He is looking pretty well now.  Went over to Henry’s this evening to see folks and get papers.
