NECAP
Testing - Tuesday, May 20th, 2008 All 11th grade
students will be taking the science portion of the NECAP test on Tuesday, May
20th. Essex Technical students will
be testing in Essex, and BTC students will be testing at CVU. There are three test periods which are
scheduled for blocks 1, 2, & 3.
The students will have a snack break in the cafeteria following block
1 (they should not attend advisory), and will have a lunch break from 11:30
a.m. - 12:00 p.m. (A Lunch) Students should
attend their block 4 class. All tests
will be taken in the 9th grade wing as the freshmen will be off campus this
day. Room schedules for these students
will be posted at the Main Office, the Direction Center, the Library, and at
each house office. |

England, Ireland & Wales Trip, 2009 A parent/student informational meeting will be held on May 12th at
6:30pm in Room 160, to provide information about the trip and the application
process. Applications will be
distributed at that meeting.
Applications will be due on May 27th. On June 3rd, there
will be a parent/student meeting for those who are accepted to go on the
trip. |
Spanish Costa Rica
Trip (February 2009) Interested in living with a family in Costa Rica for two weeks? This is a Spanish language immersion
experience open to students who will be enrolled in Spanish 3, 4, or 5 next
year. If you are interested, please
come to an informational meeting on Tuesday, May 13 either at 7:45AM or
during callback in room 229. In
addition, there will be a required meeting for students and their parents on Thursday,
May 29 at 7 pm in room 202 to learn more about the trip and the

April Burbank and Shirlee Wohl have been awarded second place in the 2008 Toshiba Exploravision
competition, beating out over 1,000 other high school teams from all over the
US and Canada. They conceived a conceptual technology that will repair
diseased and damaged nerve cells using enzymes and created a web site that
shows how their technology will work.
The trio will travel to Washington DC with their families in June for
a satellite media tour at the National Press Club, meetings with our
congressional delegation, tours, and each will receive a $5,000 award from
Toshiba America. No, the teacher-coach
does not receive $5,000! Congratulations to April, Tim and Shirlee on their
fabulous work. Please take a moment to look at their remarkable website
listed with the 2008 winners at www.exploravision.org. Also, congratulations to John Dixon, David
Hildebrand, Alex Hennessey, Dylan Hudson,(Adult Stem Cell Therapy), Ashley
Nixon, Tova Tomasi, Michaela Cornbrooks (Advanced Microchip for
Alzheimers), Benjamin Brooks, Ben
Hain, Enhanced Osteogenesis and Nanotube Systems), Christina Mignano, John
Hill, Taylor Limanek and Stephanie Puma (Carbon Removal System). Their Toshiba projects won Honorable
Mention Awards in the competition, meaning they were judged to be in the top 10
percent of entries from the US and Canada. ·
