Brighten up your winter with this new Access offering! Join
Bob, a local art educator, to explore oil painting without the fuss and
bother
of turpentine, oily rags, etc. These more eco-friendly materials yield
still
life, landscape, and portrait paintings, and clean up with soap and
water.
Traditional painting techniques will be covered as well as the basic
components
of color and composition. Beginners and more experienced painters
welcome.

A nuts and bolts introduction to beautiful handwriting! The
course will begin with examination of letter shapes and proportions
using
pencils and markers and will proceed to the exploration of letterforms
for the
Italic style of writing (both lower and upper cases) using the broad
edge nib
and ink. Join
Lydia,
a CVU educator, in learning about layout, use of color, and paper
choices, as
everyone will complete basic lettering projects.
Once you gain the power of the pen, you can
use this skill for a lifetime.

move on to two other lettering styles: Foundational, the basis for the

New Roman font most of us recognize that also touches on the basics of

capitals; and Uncial, a style often employed for old Irish sayings.

with emphasis placed on creating a final product such as a greeting
card, a
broadside, or perhaps even an accordion book. Bring the supplies from

novice through advanced level, Mary Anne will encourage, guide,

this 20-color Trip Around the World pattern is impressive.

within 2 weeks. Build your own full-size rustic adult chair

Here is a chance to learn to carve a beautiful sculpture of
your own design or continue developing your sculpting skills with
professional
advice. Working in soapstone, participants will be busy the
first evening
learning hands on how to use a variety of sculpting tools.
Tools to use
during class and a 20-35 lb. piece of stone to keep are included in
this
inspiring Access class. Robert, an award- winning stone sculptor, and
Kathy
will lead you to discover the art within the
block.
Participants will meet at CVUHS on
January 15th for 30 minutes before heading out to Kathy’s
studio 5 minutes away
