1 - Poetry Slams & Creative Writing  REGISTER FOR SESSION A, B, OR BOTH

Participants will sharpen writing skills primarily through the creation of poetry.  Reading and discussing poetry as an important form of self-expression will also take place.  CVU has a Poetry Slamming Club where members write and share their pieces before small audiences.  Slam Club members will be invited to share in front of the group during the session.  This will be a dynamic group, and active students will leave with a new appreciation for poetry and the creative process.

2 - Digital Projects  REGISTER FOR SESSION A, B, OR BOTH

Learn to change the composition of a photograph by using the controls of a digital camera.  Students will take fun & interesting photos as they perform experiments to determine the best exposure for different environments.  Students may bring their own camera or practice with a digital camera provided by PhotoGarden.  This interest area provides a solid foundation of digital photography and allows students to create digital presentations via slideshows and basic video editing.  Don't hesitate to see the world through a different light! 

3 - Graphic Design  REGISTER FOR SESSION A, B, OR BOTH

Create your own logos, labels, cards, picture packages, panoramas, web photo galleries, and improve the quality of your digital pictures using Adobe's Photoshop Elements 2.0.  Any student with basic computer skills will enjoy learning how to use many different applications of this software.  Counselors will provide many demonstrations and helpful hints as students work on different projects.  The only mistake an Undo command won't fix is not registering early enough. . limited computer spots available.

4 - Drawing, Painting, Sculpting  REGISTER FOR SESSION A, B, OR BOTH

Explore the second and third dimensions of art with your own hands.  An experienced  CVU art student will present many options around pencil drawings, watercolors, clay, and other mediums.  Learn to focus on shapes and forms as you try your hand at still-life, shadow, light, and movement.  Be prepared to make choices about your own creation.  Individual or group projects an option.  

5 - Theater:  Writing, Acting, Directing  REGISTER FOR SESSION A, B, OR BOTH

This group of students will design a One Act Play to produce for an audience.  Workshops in acting techniques and drama skills will bring out the best in the participants.  The planning and creation of a set will also keep these budding actors very busyParents and other students will be invited the last day to watch the performance.

6 - Web Site Design  REGISTER FOR SESSION A, B, OR BOTH

Students will learn the ins and outs of Microsoft Front Page as they work on their own personal web site.  CVU can always use students skilled in front page.  Many students work on the CVU site during the year, and our presenters for this class have had CVU web site experience.  Applications to computer art and animation will be included. 

7 - Garage Band  REGISTER FOR SESSION A, B, OR BOTH

Join fellow musicians in creating unique sounds.  This course is primarily designed for guitarists and drummers to coordinate their musical abilities with a professional musician.  All abilities are welcome and encouraged to expand their repertoire.  We will make every effort to accommodate all instruments if you have the desire to work together with a diverse group.  Giving a live performance is a real possibility!

8 - Hip Hop Fitness  REGISTER FOR SESSION A, B, OR BOTH

There is never a dull moment when the body is in motion.  Stay in shape as students learn the latest hip hop moves.  Counselors will blend in concepts of Yoga, Tae-Bo, and Pilates to increase flexibility, strength, posture, and ability to manage stress.  This is a great opportunity to prepare for all fall sports and rejuvenate your mind and body.

9 - CY CVU  REGISTER FOR SESSION A, B, OR BOTH

Get up, stand up for your right to create positive change for you and your peers.  Join a mind & body adventure with low ropes activities,  role-plays, and facilitated group interactions.  Build positive leadership qualities as you explore dimensions of communication, diversity, mentoring, problem solving, self-esteem, and team-building..  Students will also understand how clubs, sports, and other CVU related extra-curricular activities improve personal assets.  Option to participate in a year-long DUO-credit program an added bonus to this fascinating offering.  

10 - Engineering Solutions  REGISTER FOR SESSION A, B, OR BOTH

There's no success like failure and failure hardly feels successful.   Explore dimensions of progress through trial & error, data analysis, and technology.  Rejuvenate your mathematical & scientific mind as Counselors provide daily math stretches, problem solving techniques and plenty of time to solve your own or group problems.  Examples include (but not limited to) bridge construction, aerodynamics, solar ovens, locker organizers, and food dispensers.  Open to anyone with a "gotta good idea" attitude. 

11 - Summertime Games  REGISTER FOR SESSION A, B, OR BOTH

Challenge the mind and body as students learn how to have a ball.  Counselors will structure many different summertime classics to meet students' interests.  Having fun and promoting positive interactions is always the premium purpose.  Popular choices from previous camps include Ultimate Frisbee, Capture the Flag, Wiffle ball, Cranium, Water Balloon Volleyball, Four Square, Taboo.  Also a great opportunity to experience CVU clubs & sports.

12 - The Summer Academy  REGISTER FOR SESSION A, B, OR BOTH

CVU’s Summer Academy provides an opportunity for incoming ninth grade students to make an effective transition to the CVU Core Program. Award-winning teacher André LaChance will work with 10 students in a friendly, respectful environment, offering students the training needed to:

· Read and interpret high school literature

· Create and revise well-structured paragraphs

· Learn advanced Grammar/Usage/Mechanics

· Practice effective note taking & organization

The CVU Summer Camp serves the students and parents of the Chittenden South Supervisory Union and operates on the tuition of its participants.  It is our goal to provide a distinctive summer experience that promotes learning for the entire community.
